Expectations

This class is an introduction to Intuitive Eating. As a group, we will discuss your experiences practicing the Intuitive Eating principles of the week. You will be expected to complete two workbook chapters per week. After completing this small group class, you will have an overview of the skills you can continue to practice. The amount of time that you need to explore each principle is variable and highly individualized. Private coaching sessions will be available (at a special rate for class participants) for additional support.

About Inuitive Eating

Relearning how to eat “intuitively” (as you were born knowing how to eat) takes time and practice. The 10 principles of Intuitive Eating are guidelines that work together to either cultivate or remove obstacles to body attunement – listening for and responding to your unique body signals to guide you to your best health and wellbeing, not diet culture’s version filled with every changing food rules and defining health as coming in only one body size. If you’re ready and committed to liberating yourself from dieting, restrictive food plans and not feeling good in your body, this class is for you.

Tanya Mark is a non-diet Nutrition Therapy Practitioner and Be Body Positive Licensed Facilitator professionally certified in Intuitive Eating and Eating Psychology. She's an ambassador for the Body Image Movement and Redefining Wellness and author behind "Radical Acceptance," a Jackson Hole News & Guide column focused on promoting healthy body image and redefining health. Tanya takes a weight-neutral, Health at Every Size approach to healthful eating and works with clients virtually from around the world from her home base of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

We’ve reached a point in history where nearly every person is in some way affected by society’s heightened focus on beauty images, health, and weight. The emphasis on how we look and what we weigh has influenced the way most people perceive and care for their bodies.

This support group, based on the Be Body Positive Model, will teach you five powerful Competencies to help you develop resources and a renewed energy to take care of your body:

  • Reclaim Health
  • Practice Intuitive Self-Care
  • Cultivate Self-Love
  • Declare Your Own Authentic Beauty
  • Build Community

These core Competencies are fundamental skills we practice on a daily basis to live peacefully and healthfully in our bodies. When we become proficient—competent—at using these skills, we are able to care for ourselves in body, mind, and spirit from a place of self-love and appreciation.

  • The virtual group will meet: virtually on two consecutive Saturdays from 9:00am – 1:00pm mountain standard time via ZOOM for a total of 8 hours of group support, discussion and learning.
  • Participants: Group size minimum 4 – maximum 10. Group sessions are confidential and require signing a confidentiality agreement.

EFFICACY OF THE BE BODY POSITIVE MODEL

The Be Body Positive Model was developed over a decade of listening to diverse people share what they needed to feel confident in their bodies and to practice excellent self-care. A Stanford University pilot study showed that The 5 Competencies of the Model had a positive effect on participants’ self-reported guilt, belief in the thin ideal, body satisfaction, and social determinants of body image. Further improvements on all measures were shown eight months after group participation.

A California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) three-year pilot study showed improvement on all measures—including body satisfaction and self-compassion—at the end of the intervention, and even greater improvement after three years. If you are interested in hearing the wonderful results these students experienced, watch this video. Cornell University recently completed a two-year pilot study on their adaptation of our curriculum. Results from the Cornell study will be published soon.

Note: Body Positive Jackson Hole groups do not provide therapy, counseling or eating disorder treatment to members. The intention for these groups is to provide a comfortable space for open dialogue for participants on their own journey to making peace with their bodies. Referrals available for members needing additional support.
